Chapter 1 - Learning To Hear Beats

This chapter reveals just what a piano tuner is listening for when he tunes a piano. With a little practice you too can learn to hear "beats". You don't have to be particularly musical or gifted.

Chapter 2 - Manipulating The Tuning Hammer

Here I explain how to position the tuning hammer and what techniques to use as you turn the tuning pins. The basic concepts are quite simple. It just takes a little practice to become proficient.

You will also be able to purchase the tools you need to begin tuning your piano.

Chapter 3 - Tuning Exercises

These tuning exercises are designed for the beginner to get the feel of the tuning hammer and to train his ear to detect when notes are in tune. Again, the theory is not difficult to comprehend. It just takes practice to become good at it.

Chapter 4 - Setting The Temperament

This is the most important part of the piano tuning procedure. The middle octave must be divided up into 12 equal semi-tones for our musical scale. Each step is clearly outlined so you cannot go wrong.

The treble has its own unique tuning techniques. Some technicians have difficulty getting it either too sharp or too flat. You will discover how to tune a nice smooth treble that will make your arpeggios perfectly in tune.

Chapter 8 - Tuning The Unisons

Each note on a piano has three strings per note in the treble section. These three strings must all be at the same pitch for the note to sound in tune. This chapter will give you the guidance you need to do a first class tuning.

Chapter 9 - Tuning Problems

There are various characteristics in some pianos that make them more difficult to tune than others. This chapter will assist you to overcome these difficulties with ease. Nothing is too difficult with the correct information. You will find it all here.
