That is a good question. Most of the piano tuning schools charge around $12,000.00 per year for a complete course in piano technology. If you want private instruction, the fee is around $150 per hour. If you are convinced that the field of piano technology is definitely for you, then instruction at a college or university, or private instruction, is certainly the best way to go, provided you have the funds available.

However, there are many individuals who do not plan to make a career in piano technology or simply do not have the funds to pay for piano tuning training or live in a locality where no type of piano tuning training is available, yet would very much like to learn the trade.
